Kai-Uwe Jarr, M.D.
Principal Investigator
Benjamin Bonnard, Ph.D.
Postdoc
Benjamin earned his Ph.D. from Sorbonne University in Paris (France) under the supervision of Professor Frédéric Jaisser. During his Ph.D., he focused on the harmful role of macrophage-produced Lipocalin 2 in cardiovascular disease. After his Ph.D., he transitioned to the field of oncology to investigate sub-cellular mechanisms underlying tumor invasiveness (PI: Dr. Frédéric Saltel). In the Jarr lab, Benjamin will focus on new immunotherapies to heal (metabolic) inflammation in cardiovascular disease.

Anna-Lena Bruggner, B.Sc.
Lab Manager
Anna-Lena obtained a technical assistant qualification and then worked in the Department of Evolutionary Biology and Zoology, University of Konstanz (Germany). She received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Mainz (Germany). Following her interest in medical biology, she joined the Jarr lab. Outside of science, Anna-Lena is committed to volunteer work and socially impactful activities. Fun fact: She has an extensive knowledge of Midas cichlids from Nicaragua.

Mikael Ispirjan, M.D.
Physician-Scientist
Mikael earned his M.D. from University of Greifswald (Germany). During his M.D. thesis, he focused on innate immunity in brain cancer. In the Jarr lab, he will focus on innate immunty in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. In his free time, he enjoys playing chess.

Murat Kirtay, Ph.D.
Postdoc
Murat graduated from Istanbul Technical University (Turkey) and received his master’s degree in molecular biology from University of Jena (Germany). He earned his Ph.D. from University of Jena (Germany), where he focused on molecular neurobiology and its relation to DNA damage pathways (PI: Dr. Zhao-Qi Wang). In the Jarr lab, he will decipher how the immune system contributes to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. In his free time, he enjoys watching and training football, mountain trekking and light athletic sports.

Airton Pereira E Silva, Ph.D.
Postdoc
Airton earned his Ph.D. from Federal Fluminense University, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). During his Ph.D., he worked in the lab of Professor Gerlinde Platais and studied immune reactions in food allergy. After his Ph.D., he continued as a Postdoc in the lab of Professor Gerlinde Platais with preclinical testing of new drug candidates. In the Jarr lab, Airton will be studying new immunotherapies in myocarditis. Other than science, Airton enjoys photography and travel.
